National Reconciliation Week 2018

As Jon Black, our Managing Director said earlier this week, no matter where you are in NSW, you are on the traditional lands of an Aboriginal nation. We pay respect and acknowledge all the traditional custodians of the lands where TAFE NSW stands.

Our library network is a valuable resource for our indigenous and Australian history students with local cultural information available statewide. The collections include language maps, historical documents, stories, films and online sources.
Hunter Street Library celebrated National Reconciliation Week on Awabakal land with a cuppa, delicious treats and a treasure hunt to highlight our Australian collections. We learn so much from our ATSI Cultural Arts teachers and students while they explore culture and develop their art practice.

Visual Arts student “Megan” won our lucky number prize! Congratulations to our prize winners, and thanks for sharing Reconciliation Week with us.

National Families Week 15-21 May

National Families Week

The aim of National Families Week is to celebrate the vital role that families play in Australian society.

National Families Week is a time to celebrate with your family, make contact with your extended family and friends, and share in the enjoyment of family activities within the wider community. It is a time to celebrate the meaning of family and to make the most of family life.

Let’s take the time to reflect on the critical role that families play in teaching, supporting and nurturing children especially as they grow.

Pictured is a display at Glendale TAFE Library for National Families Week.  Our libraries have great resources that support families – such as information and resources on families, children, and being a parent – to leisure resources such as children’s books and teenage literature.
