In the Bag! We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of students & staff with the donations given for the It’s in the Bag fundraiser which makes life a little better for women & girls experiencing homelessness or poverty! “Share the Dignity” is an Australian Charity bringing dignity to women who are experiencing homelessness and are at-risk of or experiencing domestic violence. Each November Share the Dignity call for donations and the bags are then distributed as Christmas gifts through partnering shelters and charitable organisations. This year 85,000 women will need help.

Hamilton TAFE Library has been the central collection point with other points being set up at Hunter & Central Coast Libraries and at the Manager’s Unit at Newcastle Campus. Community Service Certificate IV students developed the project this year with teacher Jen Smith & Library Staff member Debbie Harbrow as their project supervisor. Further fundraising was done with a BBQ, Melbourne Cup Party & a Coffee day with the help of the Hospitality section & head teacher Toni Foot and extra items which were needed to fill the bags were purchased with these funds.

So far over 90 bags have been assembled by the students with essential items and a small special gift. Many thanks to the students involved, Deb Harbrow & Toni Foot for all the organisation & to all those who gave so generously. If anyone would like to support this charity in the lead-up to Xmas there are a variety of places acting as collection points, including Bunnings stores from 18th November to 2nd December.

Cessnock Fruit and Yoghurt Day 2017

Cessnock Campus recently hosted a Fruit and Yoghurt Morning Tea on Wednesday 1st November 2017. We served up over 50 cups of fruit topped with delicious yoghurt and muesli. Cessnock Canteen staff, the lovely Edwina and Tina did all the hard work cutting up a large bowl of fruit salad as well as individual bowls of fruit, whilst students and staff devoured the healthy fruit on offer.
