Library Lovers’ Day

Wednesday February 14 is not just Valentine’s Day.  It is also Library Lovers’ Day.

Gosford TAFE Library is promoting the day with a competition called “Love your Library”.  Everyone who visits the library is invited to write how they love libraries on a paper heart and add it to the display board.  All entrants names will go into a draw for a box of chocolates.

Hamilton, Kurri Kurri and Newcastle Libraries are also celebrating the day with some great displays.

Be a rebel … borrow a banned book!

Hundreds of books are challenged or removed from libraries across the world every year.  Newcastle library is promoting banned book week, a campaign which celebrates the freedom to read.  So come into Newcastle library and borrow a banned book.

Published in 1932, Australia was just one of the countries which banned the novel Brave new World by Aldous Huxley.  Today, this book is still challenged in parts of the world.

R U OK? Day

R U OK? Day is on the 14th September and is a day dedicated to asking those around you R U OK?, because connecting regularly and meaningfully is one thing everyone can do to make a difference to anyone who might be struggling with life.  Below are some resources on display at Belmont TAFE Library.
