Cessnock Fruit and Yoghurt Day 2017

Cessnock Campus recently hosted a Fruit and Yoghurt Morning Tea on Wednesday 1st November 2017. We served up over 50 cups of fruit topped with delicious yoghurt and muesli. Cessnock Canteen staff, the lovely Edwina and Tina did all the hard work cutting up a large bowl of fruit salad as well as individual bowls of fruit, whilst students and staff devoured the healthy fruit on offer.

Monies raised a total of $67.00 was donated to the Friends of Palliative Care Inc

Friends of Palliative Care Inc assist and support the providers of Services within the Lower Hunter and are committed to promoting community awareness of the services available, to meet the needs of the terminally ill Person and their families/carers.

Games in libraries

As part of International Games Week, TAFE NSW Hunter Street Library generously received a donation of 4 tabletop games from one of the sponsors, Good Games!

Students are welcome to borrow these games to play in the library or on campus:

Lanterns is our favourite of the bunch! It’s a fun and quick tile placement game for a small group of 2-4 players. Players collect points by matching colours with their tile placement, at the same time risking helping others to victory.

Hive Mind takes a while longer and is a great game for a larger group of up to 12 players. It is like a trivia game, except that to survive in the hive, players need to choose the same answers as everyone else. This is a lot of fun  and easy to play if you have an hour or so to spare.

We also received Rhino Hero, a card tower building game, and 3 Wishes, a memory card game, which are suitable for younger players. We are currently testing them out on some younger players, and then will be added to the collection of toys and puppets at Glendale TAFE Library for Early Childhood Education students to use for placements and activities.

Why games? It is important for our Interactive Media students to learn about game mechanics as part of game design, which can be learned by playing both tabletop and electronic games. It is also a socially engaging way to take a break! Players learn about strategy, rule structure and teamwork while playing a game, sometimes without even knowing it!

Ask at Hunter Street or Glendale TAFE libraries if you would like to try out these games. It would be great to provide feedback to the event sponsors, please comment on this post or let us know what you think of the games!
