Read This! National Year of Reading Competition

Read This!  is a National Year of Reading competition for teens. It’s an expansion of something that already happens through the Centre for Youth Literature (http://www.insideadog.com.au/blog/inkys-creative-reading-prize-2011).

To enter, teens can nominate the one book they think their peers must read
in 2012 and then provide a convincing argument in the form of a creative response to the story. This will be a book review, but it could be in the form of words, pictures, film, song, or something even more avant garde.

The 2012 Creative Reading Prize opens on 1 March 2012! Got a favourite book? Think everyone should read it? Well here’s your chance to convince them and you could also share in $40,000 worth of great prizes!

Library Lovers Day 2012

We all know that February 14th is Valentine’s Day, but did you know that it has also been declared Library Lovers Day? Staff at Kurri Kurri Campus Library marked the occasion with this eyecatching display.

Our Story : the Winning Titles

As part of the National Year of Reading, the Our Story competition was run to select a book to represent each state and territory of Australia.

we set out to identify a set of eight books, which together describe what it’s like to live in, be from, visit or in some other way connect with the eight different states and territories. We wanted to create a collection of books which, if read together, articulates the Australian experience – remote, regional, suburban and metropolitan

Thousands of Australians voted on the ABC website and in local libraries. On 14 February the winning titles were revealed, as part of the National Year of Reading official launch.

Now that the winners have been announced, you can join Australia’s biggest book club, based on the Our Story collection. For more information, see the NYOR website.
