Adult Learner’s Week 1 – 8 September 2011

Kurri Kurri Campus Library and the local public library have collaborated to organise a display for Adult Learner’s Week at Kurri Kurri Public Library.

This year’s theme for Adult Learner’s Week is “It’s only the beginning : Later life learning and career shifting”. It’s never too late to learn or to make a change. Hunter TAFE offers many options for prospective students. University Librarianship Students to Visit H.I.

Continuing the practice of co-operation with other educational institutions, the Hunter Institute Libraries will be hosting students in Librarianship from Charles Sturt University. 

The future librarians will be visiting  Newcastle Campus Library on Wednesday, as part of their Professional Experience Unit of either the Masters or Bachelor courses in Librarianship.

While at Newcastle Library they will learn about the services provided by Hunter Institute Lilbraries and how they are met by the Institute’s highly trained, professional, dedicated and modest staff.

“Libraries are not mono-cultural, every library has unique needs and its own  way of doing things. Going to several libraries gives the students an opportunity to see the wide range of differences. This allows them to adapt to their future situations more effectively and makes them better able to meet the needs of the students and other library users”.

In other news, Newcastle Campus is currently supporting CSU student Martin Gray through his library placement. Mr Gray, a published education author on eBooks, is excited to be doing his placement at an instituton he personally attended in the early noughties to study languages.

Message to Norway

In response to the recent tragedy in Norway, a group of students from Cessnock TAFE have expressed their sympathy in a heartfelt gesture of support.

To those who have lost their family and friends, we were so sad when we heard this terrible news.

We care, and offer our deepest sympathy.

This message was originally sent as an email to Norway, shortly after the tragic events occurred.

Some of the students pictured are migrants learning English. Others are studying for the HSC or doing courses to develop their skills for work and training.
